Fitting the Dovetail Joint on the “Waimea” Slack Key Guitar
March 8th, 2009 . by Layne
The dovetail neck joint on the Russell custom “Waimea “slack key guitar has been cut on both body and neck. The back and sides on this guitar are flamed curly Koa, the neck is Honduran Mahogany, and the soundboard is German Spruce. The three photos below show James doing the fine fitting of the dovetail joint using strips of sandpaper.

I love these shots! Keola Beamer was saying that with the wide neck on his guitars, Steve Grimes calls them “Louisville Sluggers.”

It’s exciting to see the Waimea moving along! We hope you can come by soon and see her in person.

Me too! I’ll try to remember my bib, so I can keep the drool off her!

Jeff, still some drooling time to go. But it’s now ready for the spray booth, so hold your hat on.
Jason, thank you so much. You will get to hear it soon now – and you’ll be seeing it in the spray booth. Exciting!
Duane, thank you!!! James and I both appreciate this!
